“I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.”
Today marks the passing of yet another chapter in the life and history of MBC.
By the end of this morning, there will be a flurry of activity, lots of packing and loading and when the dust settles, we would have closed the chapter of our church’s history.
Yet, as I reflect on this, I am all the more mindful that it is not just the history of MBC, but it is really “His Story” of how God moves and works in the lives of His people within a particular assembly called the local church and specifically Maranatha Baptist Church.
He Moved Us There to Minister
I recalled how God moved behind the scenes to provide us a new place when we didn’t think that we needed one. Yet, it was at a time when we agonized over our first deficit budget and how God was going to Provide the funds.
God used the late Robert Yeo to invite us to come to Helping Hand, not just to work with the men there, but to meet there. We didn’t know it was necessary, but God’s wisdom is far greater than ours.
He Used Us to Minister There
I get excited when I think of how people started showing up there from time to time, seemingly out of nowhere. We had the opportunity to minister to those who passed through this place, but some also stayed as members, while others are making plans to move with us.
This is a reminder that God uses us to minister in ways that we often cannot comprehend. The psalmist reminds us that we are to meditate about God’s work and His doings (v.12-13). It is precisely His greatness that gives us confidence that no matter where we go, He goes before us and leads us like a gentle shepherd (Isa 40:11).
He is Moving us to New Heights
Even as I write this, I think of the hymn “Higher Ground” where we sing “new heights I’m gaining, every day, still pressing onward heavenbound, Lord plant my feet on Higher Ground”.
How true this is, that it is the Holy Spirit’s cry within all His sheep that we desire to be more greatly used by our Lord and Master.
By the same time next Sunday, we would be in a new place of opportunity, a place of permanence and a place of stability and excellence.
There will be opportunity for God to use MBC to grow and bring the gospel out throughout Singapore. There will be a place where we can site ourselves for some time and bring about a sense of permance and order.
Finally, I’m excited in that this will be a place, though put together with limited resources, but is excellent. That, will be His Story of how God worked in MBC’s history.
